Présentation : Développement durable

The quality of the natural and social environment contributes to the welfare of human societies. Its degradation provokes social costs of major scale.

When the individual and collective behaviors are economically, ecologically and socially viable, today's public interest protects that of tomorrow. This is what one calls sustainable development.

How to answer current challenges such as pollution, global warming and biodiversity extinction? How to manage social risk and the tensions it generates in a moving economic and financial context? The economic analysis aims at studying the interactions between economic agents, organizations and institutions. The environmental and social stakes must be examined within the framework of these interactions and integrated into the decision-making processes.

In this sense, decision-making towards sustainable development is capital. By launching the research group dedicated to sustainable development, CIRANO has decided to attach to it the importance it deserves.
